Off to the airport for our big departure to South Korea! We're leaving the rain of Osaka for the sunshine of Seoul. It's a short flight - about 1.5 hours to the South Korean capital.
When we arrive in Korea, we take the bus to our hotel, but just before we do, we stop by the bookshop on the 3rd floor of Terminal 1 to pick up our 'Discover Seoul Passes'. With this pass, you get free access to monuments, museums, theme parks, bus tours and activities. You can also use it as a transport card (you'll need to top it up first, as with the Suica).
We got our bus tickets from a machine on the ground floor, then went to the bus stop next door, outside. You'll find the number on your ticket.
Just a heads-up: you'll need to carry some cash with you to top up your travel cards at the stations. Just a heads-up: ATMs are pretty scarce, so I'd recommend getting some at the airport.
For navigation, I'd suggest using Naver rather than Google Maps, which is a bit out of date. I've found that getting around in Korea is a bit more complicated than in Japan.
Our hotel is in Gangnam, just a metro stop from Lotte World, which is a really popular amusement park in Seoul. As a matter of fact, it's our first port of call. It's already 5pm, so we're going to stick close to the hotel for now.
You can just present your pass at the Wild Gate to get your tickets. It's really easy to find, as there are signs in English to show you the way.
The park has two sections, an indoor and an outdoor one.
It was a Monday afternoon, so there were already quite a few people there. I imagine it must be even busier at the weekends when it's raining.
It's a pleasant place to spend the day, though. You can even hire school uniforms and walk around the park in them!
There are lots of restaurants, from Korean specialities to fast food. There are also lots of stalls, like the cute little candy floss stalls in the photos below.
After an emotional day, we walk back through the illuminated streets to our hotel. Tomorrow it's off to discover the South Korean capital!
