Day 17- Asakusa and Shinjuku

Writer's picture: Déborah Déborah

Today is the last day of our fantastic trip to Japan. As I reflect on our time here, I am convinced that we have made the most of every moment. Today, we decided to head to the vibrant Asakusa district, home to the famous Senso-ji temple. Wearing my elegant black kimono, I felt a deep connection to the rich cultural heritage of this magnificent country. The streets were bustling with traditional shops and street food stalls, creating an electric atmosphere full of excitement and history. On our final day, we visited the Senso-ji temple, which is truly majestic, with its impressive architecture and peaceful gardens. We took our time to absorb the sights and sounds, capturing memories that I will cherish forever. This trip was an unforgettable adventure, and I am grateful for every moment spent in this enchanting country.

Here is a short presentation of my kimono:

My kimono (着物, kimono) is a true symbol of Japanese culture, blending tradition and elegance. Predominantly black, it exudes a sophisticated and timeless allure.

This kimono is reserved for special occasions, such as festivals (祭り, matsuri), tea ceremonies (茶道, sadō) and temple visits.Today, I chose it for my visit to the renowned Senso-ji temple in Asakusa, an experience that demanded the perfect ensemble.

The obi belt (帯, obi) is made of bright orange silk, adding a touch of vibrant colour to the ensemble. This belt is a central element of the outfit, often decorated with traditional motifs that tell a story or symbolise cultural values.

The kimono skirt features beautiful gold motifs (金, kin), representing elements of nature, such as birds (鳥, tori) and flowers (花, hana). These motifs pay homage to Japanese craftsmanship, highlighting the exceptional skills of kimono designers.

To complete my outfit, I chose to accessorise with a small red fabric bag, adding a note of playfulness while staying true to the Japanese aesthetic. My hair is adorned with small flowers (花, hana), adding a delicate touch to my look.

Wearing this kimono is a tribute to the richness of Japanese culture and history, and I feel honoured to be able to live this experience and immerse myself in such a beautiful and meaningful tradition.

Get ready for the awe-inspiring splendour of this popular site. It's an unforgettable experience, a architectural and historical gem just waiting to be discovered. Whether you want a breathtaking view, to immerse yourself in local crafts or to try traditional dishes, every moment spent here will allow you to experience the essence of this magical place. You will marvel at the splendour and unique atmosphere of this iconic place.

After our stroll and a bit of shopping, we went straight to Starbucks, just a stone's throw from the temple. I have to admit that walking around in this kimono isn't very practical, but we need a break to rehydrate and recover from our walk. We sat down comfortably, with a hot drink in hand, and contemplated this emblematic place. It's the perfect opportunity to recharge our batteries before continuing our exploration. It's the perfect opportunity to enjoy a moment of relaxation while reflecting on this memorable day.

Before leaving, we have an unforgettable photo session on the balcony. It's the perfect opportunity to capture memories in this magnificent setting. The temple provides a dramatic backdrop, and my kimono gently moves in the wind, creating living works of art. These shots capture not only our traditional dress, but also the very essence of this place and its unique and bewitching atmosphere. It's a moment of pure joy, sharing and wonder that we'll cherish for a long time to come.

After this unforgettable walk in kimono, we head back to the hotel so I can change. Then it's off to Shinjuku! I know this district well and every visit is a new adventure. Whether it's discovering new restaurants, shopping or just enjoying the nightlife, Shinjuku always has something to offer. I'm excited to explore this vibrant district and experience new things.

I took the opportunity to take a few photos of Godzilla, who was showing off his nose. It's always fun to see this famous iconic statue that attracts so many visitors. The photos with Godzilla add a playful touch to my collection of memories. It's a Shinjuku must-see, and I can't resist capturing the moment. I'm sure the photos will convey the energy and excitement of the place.

I have to admit that I forgot to take a picture of the food, which wasn't very good. I tried the fried oysters, a classic of French cuisine, but it's not a dish that appeals to me. After paying the bill, we decided to enjoy the nightlife of Shinjuku one last time before going to a karaoke bar. It was an entertaining and laugh-out-loud experience, although we had to get back to the hotel in just under two hours. Back at the hotel, we'll be able to relax before the long journey ahead. It's always nice to relax after a busy day, especially before embarking on another adventure!
